HELPFUL HINTS IF YOU ARE IN DISCOMFORT
If you are having difficulty and cannot get to the office here are some helpful hints.
1. If a metal band which goes around the tooth has come off, put it in an envelope and call the office for an appointment. If this happens during the summer, do not throw the band away, put it in a safe place. Do not worry.
2. If a bonded bracket comes off, call the office and mention that it is a bonded bracket. This requires a long appointment to replace. Do not worry.
3. If a wire is sticking you -
(A) Try to push it back in place with the eraser on the end of a pencil.
(B) Place wax over the wire, until you can get to the office.
(C) If a large wire is hanging out of your mouth and you cannot get to the office, have someone clip it off.
4. If your nightbrace is broken, leave it off and call for an appointment.
5. If the metal guide on your biteplate breaks off, continue to wear the biteplate. If you have difficulty keeping it in, use denture adhesive which can be purchased in the drug store.
6. If you have canker sores -
(A) Avoid hot and spicy foods.
(B) Cover projecting part of brace near it with wax.
(C) Use Gly-Oxide which can be purchased at drug stores.
(D) If sore persists or is infected and you cannot get to the office see any dentist.
7. Most of these problems can be avoided if you stay away from all hard and sticky foods.
